Goals of parenting

I am a mother of two young children, both under 5 years of age, a preschool age daughter and an infant son. Being a parent comes with many opportunities to view, engage, interact with and understand varied parenting styles. This opportunity brings with it the struggles of comparison and doubt, as expected. The most important learning for me as a parent has been to accept the fact that there is no perfect parenting style. Consequently, there is no perfect parent. This, for me, was quite a disappointment initially, to be honest.

Leadership in schools is not about having all the answers. It is about holding space for others to grow, for challenges to unfold, and for oneself to remain rooted in purpose. Over the years, I have come to understand that leading with integrity and clarity helps build trust, encourages progress, and creates meaningful change. These ten lessons continue to guide me on my journey in school leadership.

Why the best learning happens outside the worksheet

“Why is the moon following us, athey?” asked my niece as we walked home from the vegetable shop. Years later, my three-year-old son stood by the window, silently watching the rain. After a few minutes, using the few words he knew, he said, “tap, tap, open, open.” These moments, filled with wonder and curiosity, are etched in memory.
